Blue River Lodge
Posted by UnknownWe awoke on Tuesday morning to our first rain of the holiday. I wanted to get out anyway but was forced to turn back again as it intensified. It did die down, allowing us a chance to get out properly before the 7am breakfast.
A Yellow Warbler was trying to brighten the place up:
We got a very close view of a Black-cheeked Woodpecker:
Black-headed Saltator:
Blue-and-white Swallow, gathering nesting material:
Common Tody-Flycatcher was in the bushes by the pond:
Sat overlooking the pond a Green Kingfisher:
A couple of years ago we tried really hard to see one of these in Southern Texas but having dipped out were delighted to see one here!
Another pond bird, Green Heron:
Everywhere it seems in Costa Rica are Great-tailed Grackles, this one a female:
Tropical Kingbird:
This was another Texas target that we saw first in fact in Costa Rica.
A bird that seems always to appear in familial groups is the Groove-billed Ani:
Breakfast was all right but nothing to write home about (!) so we packed-up and headed back out...
